Member of 82nd Airborne Division

Attended Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and Command and General Staff School at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Battalion Commander and later Regimental S-3 Commanding Officer and Executive Officer of 326th Glider Infantry. Assigned to First Airborne Task Force, First Allied Airborne Army HQ, responsible for airborne operations planning in conjunction with Operation Dragoon, the invasion of Southern France in August 1944, and landed by glider in the initial assault. Participated in the following battles and campaigns: Rome-Arno, Southern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Later in the war was involved in arrangements for Potsdam Tripartite Conference and was attached to 3rd Army Nuremberg, Germany in connection with preparations for War Criminal Trials. Awarded Bronze star and silver battle star.

Returned to civilian life as a letter carrier for US Postal Service in January 1946.
